It is fair to say that Dynamo Kyiv’s bitter rivals Shakhtar Donetsk
have slightly gained the upper hand in recent years. In 1996, Rinat Akhmetov
took over as president and invested heavily in the club. Not only did
he finance multi-million pound signings but he also oversaw the
building of a new stadium, the Donbass Arena.
But the Dynamo Kyiv story has the weight of history bleeding from
every page. This is what truly sets it apart from any other Ukrainian
team.
